1. Keep your jewellery safe and away from skincare products. Wear your jewellery before applying lotions, perfume, or hairspray. When going swimming or to the sauna never wear silver jewellery 

2. Store it in a ziplock bag: Your jewellery can tarnish with time when it comes into contact with moisture and air. Before closing, place it in a ziplock bag and squeeze out all the air. 

3. Use chalk to store your silver. Chalk retains moisture, and if your home is dusty, consider investing in some dehumidifiers or silica packs. 

4. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. When gemstones are exposed to too much light, their colour fades. 

5. Avoid using it around wood. Avoid storing your jewellery on chemically treated surfaces or wood, as these may stain or hasten the tarnishing process. 

6. Make a rotation of your pieces. Jewellery isn't intended to be worn all the time; take a break and show some affection to other pieces of jewellery. 

7. Distinguish gold jewellery from silver jewellery. Gold is easily scratched, so keep it in individual soft cloth bags or the original boxes it came in.

10. Use dishwashing detergent and warm water. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water and rub the jewellery with a soft cloth if it is rusty, filmy, or beginning to discolour. Rinse with cool water and buff off with a towel. 

11. Apply a no-soak treatment to your jewellery. Using a small makeup brush dipped in shampoo and water to clean pearls and other porous stones. Wipe the pearl with a damp rag. 

12. Use nail polish Apply a thin coat of clear nail polish to every aspect of the costume jewellery that comes into contact with your skin`
